While in Cleveland recently to attend the local GOP dinner, Gov. John Kasich spoke about how his administration, along with the legislature, has worked to stabilize Ohio and lay the groundwork for job creation. The Dispatch has more below about his message to Ohioans:
The Republican political schedule at this time of year is full of county “ Lincoln Day” fundraisers — named, of course, in honor of the party’s standard bearer, Abraham Lincoln.
Gov. John Kasich, who is seeking re-election this fall, has been a constant on the Lincoln Day circuit over the past month, although the speeches he has given have been largely devoid of politics and instead served as test runs for the State of the State address he will deliver on Feb. 24.
So the Republican governor broke from that practice — a little — last night in his Lincoln Day speech to 430 Cuyahoga County Republicans when he linked Lincoln’s fight “for a great purpose, a great movement,” to his own goals of today.
“That’s our heritage,” Kasich said of Lincoln. “Our heritage is to fight and be a part of a movement to lift people; that’s who we are. I don’t see politics as just something about another election. I’ve been in a lot of them; it’s not that.
“We as a party have an opportunity to bring progress.”
And
After touting balanced state budgets and a $1.4 billion surplus that he said people are “ astounded” by, Kasich added: “We’re going to propose another income-tax cut” to drop the state’s top rate below 5 percent.
